AM HR 69

Flat time equivalent: 29:29

Not sure how accurate my garmin was in the canyon. It said I was running 1:11 pace on my warmup.

Mile Time Avg HR Max HR
 1 5:09 173 226
 2 5:16 186 230
 3 5:27 184 190
 4 5:16 181 186
 The Rest (.97) 5:42 183 191

Plan was to keep my HR in the 180s, which worked out fine. Not sure what to make of those ridiculously high numbers. My max HR was always been kind of nuts (I would routinely break 200 on runs in HS). Those spikes in the first couple of miles seemed to occur will my heart rate was finding the right zone. I felt pretty comfortable after the first 5 minutes or so.

I think the downhill really negated my heart issues as it's mostly about turnover, form and strength. When we turned onto wasatch in the last half mile I slowed to over 7min pace and Allie almost caught me.

Hit 5k in 16:20, but with the drop it's probably more accurate to look at my 17:48 for 3.35 miles. Even the adjusted time is generous, I don't think I could run that on a flat 5k right now.

Nice job James. It's good to see you racing again even if it's not as fast as you'd like.

Your max heart rate is nuts! I have never seen mine go above 186. I'm sure I could get it above 190 if I ran all out uphill for two miles.

but the difference between your resting and your max is similar to my gap.

I would suspect sensor trouble - I get max heart rates in the 220s during the first mile and I guarantee you 100% I am not there. I don't even break 173 in a 5k.

Yeah, I'm not really sure about that 230 reading, but getting over 200 is possible for me.

rematch at UV half.

Nice job...1:11 pace is pretty sweet. :) I'm excited to see who wins the rematch this weekend.
